Visa

Nationals of most countries require a valid visa to enter Bangladesh. The Consulate General of Bangladesh in Dubai determines the type and category of visa and duration of stay upon receiving an application. The types and categories vary according to the purpose of visit, length of stay and bilateral arrangements with the country of the foreign national.

The UAE nationals are eligible to obtain Visa on Arrival at the airport to enter Bangladesh.

Please read carefully before submitting your visa application:

Applicants living only in Dubai & Northern Emirates (Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Um AL Quwain, Fujairah) are eligible to apply for a visa to the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Dubai. Applicants from Abu Dhabi are advised to submit visa applications to the Embassy of Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi.

Since E-visa has not yet been introduced, Machine-readable visa requires the applicant to submit the original passport along with the visa application.

Applicants may submit their visa applications on their own. In case the applicant is unable to submit his/her application in person, an authorized nominee or travel agent or visa agent can submit the visa application on the applicant’s behalf with a letter of authorization.

Visa application must be initiated through www.visa.gov.bd. It is also important to provide accurate information when filling out the online form. Incorrect or wrong information may lead to outright rejection of application. An incomplete application form or application with incorrect information or insufficient supporting papers may be summarily rejected.

The Consulate General reserves the right to withhold any application for closer scrutiny. Applicants may be called for an interview if it is felt necessary by the competent authority.

When applying for a visa, the validity of Passport should be at least 6 months. The passport must have at least two blank pages and should not be mutilated/ damaged/ tampered in any manner.

Additional documents or information may be required depending on your circumstance. The list of supporting documentation provided in the required document section is not exhaustive. You may also need to provide additional document in support of your visa application. Please provide certified true copies of all documents. Documents that are not certified will not be accepted. You should also provide a certified English translation of any document other than English.

Acceptance of visa application does not automatically guarantee the issuance of a visa. The Consulate General reserves the right to approve or reject any application for a visa.

The application must be submitted at least 05 (five) working days prior to the intended travel date. If you submit your visa application in the eleventh hour, you may be disappointed if your visa is not approved in time for your planned travel date. Therefore, you are requested to submit your visa application well in advance of your intended travel date.

Your itinerary/air ticket does not help expediting your visa application. You should not book non-changeable or non-refundable travel arrangements until you get confirmation that your visa application has been granted. The Consulate General is not responsible for any financial damage sustained by visa applicants whose applications were processed later than anticipated or were rejected.

Issuance of a visa may be delayed if clearance is required from the government of Bangladesh.

The Consulate General issues new visa only. There is no visa extension service provided from the Consulate. If the applicant needs an extension of visa, it could be extended from the Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP), Dhaka with a letter from the local sponsor and a police clearance certificate.

Tourist Visa

A. WHO ARE ELIGIBLE

A foreign national who wishes to visit Bangladesh for the purpose of tourism or meeting friends & relatives or participating in a seminar/conference/workshop/study tour or religion is eligible to apply for a tourist visa.


B. DURATION

A tourist visa may be issued for a maximum duration of three (03) months with a single entry.

C. EXTENSION

An extension up to one (01) month can be obtained from the Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

  • Printed copy of duly filled-in and signed online VISA application form

Business Visa

Foreign nationals planning to visit Bangladesh for business purposes are required to obtain a Bangladesh business visa. This special purpose visa grants the holder permission to visit Bangladesh to conduct business activities. The businessperson may visit for purposes such as commerce, trade, or investment, provided they can furnish documentary evidence to support their intent.

Anyone visiting for the following purposes may apply for a Business Visa:

  • Analysing investment potential, participating in business related board/general/technical meeting etc.
  • Recruiting manpower from Bangladesh
  • Participating in trade fair, exhibition and for discussion
  • Quality verification of Bangladeshi products
  • Negotiation with suppliers for placing orders
  • Tour conducts
  • Enhancing academic network
  • Foreign partners/directors of Bangladeshi company

A Business Visa may be issued for a maximum of 1 (one) year with single, double, or multiple entries. Please note that the duration of stay for each visit should not exceed 60 days.

With reference to the local sponsor and police clearance certificate, visa could be extended from Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP), Bangladesh up to 3 (three) years with maximum 6 (Six) months duration of stay in each visit. In case of six months extension of visa from the DIP, police clearance is not required.

  • Originally signed recommendation letter from the concerned chamber of commerce or nomination/recommendation letter from the employer, and
  • Invitation letter from the business organization incorporated in Bangladesh along with their latest tax payment certificate

A. WHO ARE ELIGIBLE?

An investor, whether part of an existing, new, under-construction, or upcoming industrial or commercial entity in the private sector—either as a joint venture or a 100% foreign-owned company—who wishes to visit Bangladesh for the purpose of investment or management of an established business or commercial organization, is eligible to apply for this category of visa.

B. DURATION

An investor visa may be issued for a maximum of one (01) year with single, double, or multiple entries. The duration of stay under this category is ‘As required’.

C. EXTENSION

Employment Visa

A. WHO ARE ELIGIBLE?

The eligible person of this category of visa are:

  • An Expert/adviser/employee/individual who appointed in a government/ semi-government/ autonomous bodies/ projects and equivalent organization in Bangladesh
  • An Individual who employed in local/foreign government/semi-government/ liaison/ industrial/ commercial organization or other equivalent organizations in Bangladesh
  • Individuals appointed under local/ foreign government/ semi-government contractor ship and in equivalent organization in Bangladesh
  • An Individual who intends to do honorary work (without salary) with Registered NGOs in Bangladesh.

B. DURATION

A work permit/employment visa may be issued for a maximum of three (03) months with single, double, or multiple entries. The duration of stay in this category is a maximum of 90 days per visit.

A. WHO ARE ELIGIBLE?

A. Who are eligible?

Ambassadors, diplomats, consular officers, officers of equivalent status, other embassy officials, their spouses, and dependent family members who wish to go to Bangladesh for official duties (including accompanying or joining the principal) are eligible to apply for a Diplomatic or other official visa.

A. WHO ARE ELIGIBLE?

Officials and staff members of the UN and its affiliated organizations, international or regional organizations/bodies, their spouses, and dependent family members who wish to go to Bangladesh for employment or official duties (including accompanying or joining the principal) are eligible to apply for this category of visa.

B. DURATION

Visas for UN and other international organizations may be issued for a maximum of five years with multiple entries. The duration of stay for this category of visa is determined as needed for each visit.

C. EXTENSION

Extensions of up to five (05) years can be obtained from the Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) in Bangladesh.

A. WHO ARE ELIGIBLE? 

  • The UAE nationals are eligible for Visa on Arrival to enter Bangladesh. Foreign nationals from the UK, any European Union country, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Turkey, and Brunei are now eligible for Visa on Arrival when visiting Bangladesh for government work, tourism, business, or investment.
  • Visa on Arrival is also applicable to nationals of countries, or individuals traveling from countries, where there is no Bangladeshi Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate.
  • Foreign nationals of Bangladesh origin and their husband/wife/children.
  • Foreign nationals holding diplomatic or official passports; Officials of UN Organizations.
  • Visa on Arrival is subject to the approval/satisfaction of the immigration authority based on the relevant and satisfactory documents presented to the immigration.
  • Security Services Division, Ministry of Home Affairs may grant prior permission to a traveller for visa on arrival in special consideration.

B. DURATION

A Visa on Arrival is issued for a maximum of 30 days.

Important: The visitor must possess a minimum of US$ 500.00 or its equivalent in foreign currency, either in cash or on a credit card.

A. Visa on Arrival for Tourism or business: 

  • Passport with validity over 6 months
  • Return air ticket to and from Bangladesh
  • Confirmed Hotel Booking/ Invitation letter from any Bangladeshi citizen along with the copy of his/her valid Bangladesh Passport or National ID Card / invitation letter from any Bangladesh organization
  • A letter of introduction from the company the businessperson is working and a letter of invitation from the interested company in Bangladesh will be required. In this case, interested/inviting organization in Bangladesh must inform the immigration authority in advance about the arrival of the foreign visitor(s).

B. Visa on Arrival for a Bangladeshi Origin Foreign National 

  • A foreign passport holder of Bangladeshi origin must show proof of their origin. In such cases, a previous Bangladeshi passport, NVR stamp, or birth certificate may be requested upon arrival. A foreign birth certificate along with the parents’ passport or NVR may be required for the children of a Bangladeshi national. A marriage certificate along with the spouse’s passport or NVR may be required for the spouse of a Bangladeshi national.
